Kayla Itsines doesn't personally take protein powder and prefers to get her daily intake of vitamins and minerals through the nutritious foods she eats every day, rather than taking supplements.
To find out more about protein and supplements and if you should be incorporating them into your lifestyle, read on below:
Protein
In her H.E.L.P Nutrition Guides, and with the help from our team of nutrition specialists, Kayla has included optional protein shakes that you can choose to incorporate into your meal plan if you wish. Keep in mind, protein shakes should be used to complement your diet, not replace meals or food sources of protein.
Kayla doesn't recommend a specific brand of protein shake, but suggests using a low carbohydrate Whey Protein Isolate (WPI).
Supplements
As mentioned above, Kayla believes in receiving nutrients from a wholesome diet that includes foods from all six of the main food groups.
Multivitamins could also be used to prevent deficiencies or support any existing conditions if recommended by your doctor, but shouldn't be used as a complete replacement.
If you are looking to introduce supplements into your diet, we recommend seeking advice from a relevant health care professional.
